Guide · How to choose

SKLO catalogues: how to choose the right windows

Material, system, glazing and hardware. A step-by-step route through our catalogues so you can decide with confidence instead of drowning in options.

Choosing windows can feel daunting: so many materials, systems, glass types and finishes. The decision becomes simple when it is taken in layers, in the right order. This is the route we follow with every client, and the one you can follow through our catalogues.

In short

Always decide in this order: 1) material, 2) profile system, 3) glazing and 4) hardware and finishes. Each choice narrows the next and keeps you from getting lost in options.

1 · The material

Start with the material, which sets both character and budget: timber for warmth and renovation, PVC for the best efficiency per euro, aluminium for minimal sightlines and large openings, steel for security and an industrial look. If you are unsure, we advise based on your house and your priorities.

2 · The profile system

Within each material there are systems with different depths and chamber counts. The greater the construction depth, the better the insulation — and the higher the cost. The catalogues show each system with its performance figures, so you can match the choice to what the project demands.

3 · The glazing

Glass accounts for half the performance. Double or triple, solar control for south-facing façades, acoustic for urban frontages, safety glass where it is needed. This is where thermal and acoustic comfort is fine-tuned, within the system already chosen.

4 · Hardware and finishes

Finally, the details you live with every day: the opening type (tilt-and-turn, sliding, fixed), the hardware and the colour. Any RAL or NCS, handles, security locks. This is the layer that tailors the window to the taste and the use of each room.

Frequently asked questions

Quick answers to the questions we hear most.

Where should I start when choosing a window?

Start with the material (timber, PVC, aluminium or steel), then the profile system, then the glazing and finally the hardware and finish. That order simplifies the decision.

Do the SKLO catalogues include performance figures?

Yes. Each system is presented with its thermal insulation (Uw) and acoustic (Rw) figures and its weathertightness class.

Can I be advised instead of choosing alone?

Of course. We advise based on your house, solar orientation, noise and budget. You can start a quote request or visit our Lisbon showroom.
