The owner of a house with more than 100 years of history in the centre of Estremoz came to SKLO to replace its old timber windows. The main goal was to install new windows that met modern energy-efficiency standards while keeping the historic character of the building.
Authenticity of the façade
For the main part of the house we produced windows in selected pine with the Naturo 68 profile, in classic white. Duplex glazing bars, which faithfully reproduce the look of the old small-pane windows while keeping the better thermal and acoustic performance of a single sealed unit, together with classical-style hardware, made it possible to recreate the original spirit of the period. Every window was fitted with Roto hardware, known for its reliability and durability.
Energy efficiency
All units were fitted with high-efficiency double glazing, which significantly improved the thermal comfort and insulation of the house.
Solar protection
On the windows facing the sunniest side we installed Woodline interior blinds, which help protect the interior from heat and create a warmer atmosphere.
Smart savings (the conservatory)
For the glazing of the conservatory in the rear courtyard we proposed Aluplast 4000 PVC systems. Thanks to a carefully chosen configuration, these systems visually repeat the design of the timber windows and keep the aesthetic unity of the building. The solution allowed the client to cut costs significantly without losing the elegant look of the exterior.
Historic highlight
The entrance door was made in the original grey, exactly as in the design of more than a century ago, and became one of the most striking elements of the façade.
Result
This project shows how combining premium timber systems with well-chosen PVC solutions can answer architectural challenges in historic buildings, keeping authenticity while optimising the client’s budget.
